Are you a member of a church and working in scientific research or study? If so, you’re invited to apply to join the Church Scientific workshops. These will provide six intensive evenings of learning and discussion – with the challenge to think about your own scientific work in the light of philosophical and theological perspectives. There will be recommended reading, group work and tasks to work on for sharing with others.
For more details on our planned workshops Click HERE.

We will ask questions like:

  • What is this thing called science?
  • Does Jesus want scientific work?
  • Will all current theories one day be overturned?
  • How could your faith not shape your next big discovery?
  • Is there a Christian philosophy of science?

Topics to be covered include:

  • A theological and worldview framework for scientific work
  • Theories of scientific progress: inductivism, falsificationism, historicism
  • Expectations, experiments, arguments and plausibility
  • Scientism: physicalism and other kinds of reduction
  • Social, economic and ideological pressures in science
  • Presentation skills and software

Recommended reading:

  • Alan Chalmers: What Is This Thing Called Science? (3rd or 4th edn)
  • Gerald Rau: Mapping the Origins Debate
  • Roy Clouser: The Myth of Religious Neutrality (2nd edn)
