God, Creation and the Scientific Enterprise

Watch Prof. David Watt’s talk at the Church Scientific conference on 24 June 2017.

Why do we believe what we believe?  How does scientific thinking connect to a theistic worldview, and theology?  How can a science like physics explain a phenomenon – like the existence of a mountain?  How does the biblical doctrine of creation explain our world?  What are scientific laws really like, and how might they relate to our beliefs about God?  How do scientists themselves understand the power of science to explain the workings of the cosmos?  These are all questions touched upon in this wide-ranging lecture that came at the culmination of the first year of Church Scientific in Leeds.

David Watts is professor of biomaterials science at the University of Manchester.  He is also a co-leader on “Confident Christian Engagement with Science”, a sister project to Church Scientific.
